User-Driven Services
In addition to PASS’s major departments (WorkABILITY, and EmployerABILITY) Hertfordshire PASS has two smaller ‘support’ departments responsible for running its office (called Support Services), and promoting and developing its innovative approach to user-driven work called User-Driven Services.
Publications written by users
Since the start of 2008 User-Driven Services have published and widely distributed two books (called ‘User-Driven’ and ‘User-Driven 2’) written by young disabled people employed by PASS as apprentices. They have written about their experiences of overcoming barriers to work.
Academic publications about PASS’s user-driven work
Over the same period PASS has also published 3 academic papers on its user-driven methods; 2 of these papers were presented at UK Social Enterprise Research Conferences, and the most recent, User-Driven Social Enterprise commissioned by Social Enterprise East of England, running to 85 pages and 141 references.
Disability Awareness Sessions
User Driven Services also currently delivers Disability Awareness Training to youth workers across Hertfordshire. Feedback from evaluation questionnaires include:
“I feel my awareness has greatly improved…”;
“The attitude of the disabled participants (who led much of the session) was very positive….”;
“I feel I can approach situations much more confidently, without feeling anxious about saying something inappropriate.”
