In January 2010 Andrew, Myself, Patrick and Andrew’s P.A Sujeevan were invited to the launch party of a report published by the Alliance for Inclusive Education to show what disabled young leaders think about leaderships. The report shows what disabled young people think about leaderships and what young disabled people have been doing in the way of leaderships.
The launch party was held in a room at the House of Lords and was launched there by a small conference which was chaired by Baroness Jane Campbell of Surbition who is a disability rights activist and campaigns on disability rights. They also had speakers from different organisations within the London area which told the invited audience about what the report’s findings were and how they thought the report would benefit everyone who read it.
The launch party was really good and it really showed what disabled young people can do and how they think about leading organisations, or meetings where their voice is really wanted and valued , and their opinions heard and how they can develop their skills, and abilities. It was very crowded as there were loads of people from different organisations who all either contributed to the report or who were just attending to hear about the report’s launch but it was very successful and everyone thought the report was well written and the contributions from young disabled people including myself , Andrew and Patrick , which were good.
My view is that I hope that the report will help people to understand what leadership is and how it can help people in organisations. I myself have been attending another training course called Leading Ability run by Essex Coalition of Disabled People which helps to develop leadership skills and it is a great way of learning to be a manager and leading organisations.
